Druid

A shapeshifter who can do every job. Fight as a bear or a cat, heal your friends, or travel the world in animal form.

Pre-launch · beta info Checked Oct 26, 2026 against Wowhead's Forever database and Icy Veins (updated Oct 18)

The 30-second version

  1. Levels 1–9 are slow. You fight with spells until you get Bear Form at 10. Hang in there.
  2. Bear for groups of enemies, cat for one enemy (from 20).
  3. Heal between fights in your normal form, then shift back. Shifting costs mana, so don't flip back and forth mid-fight.
  4. Keep Mark of the Wild and Thorns on.

The one Druid idea to learn

Your forms

Druids change shape. Each form has its own strengths, its own resource, and its own action bar: when you shift, the buttons on your bar change.

Caster (normal)
From level 1 · uses mana

Cast spells and heal yourself. Your only option before level 10.

Bear Form
Class quest at level 10 · uses Rage

Tough. Lots of health and armor. Best against several enemies, and for tanking.

Cat Form
Level 20 · uses Energy

Fast damage with combo points, like a Rogue. Can sneak with Prowl. Best against one enemy.

Travel forms
Aquatic 16 (quest) · Travel 30

Swim underwater forever, or run much faster on land.

How do I switch forms?

Your forms appear on a small bar just above your main action bar. Click one to shift, or click it again to go back to normal. Shifting costs mana, so plan ahead: heal in caster form before the fight, shift, then stay in that form until the enemy is dead.

Your action bars

Where every button goes, form by form

The game switches your action bar when you change form, so each form has its own buttons on the same keys. Each key has the same job as for every other class, and nothing ever moves once it's placed. Set up each bar the first time you shift into it. (Not sure how to set up your keys? Start Here covers it.)

What to upgrade

When you get a new item, check it for these stats, in this order. Higher on the list matters more.

What armor can I wear?

Druids wear leather. Skinning and Leatherworking let you make your own armor as you go.

  1. Weapon damage per secondYour forms use your weapon's DPS number. Speed doesn't matter, just the DPS.
  2. AgilityMore critical hits and dodges, plus attack power in Cat Form.
  3. StrengthMore attack power in every form.
  4. StaminaMore health, especially useful in Bear Form.

Top 5 beginner mistakes

Shifting back and forth mid-fight

Every shift costs mana, and you lose your Rage or Energy.

Heal before the fight, then stay in one form.

Fighting groups as a cat

Cats can only hit one enemy and can't take many hits.

Two or more enemies? Use Bear Form.

Skipping the form quests

No Bear Form at 10 means a very slow start.

Do the Bear (10) and Aquatic (16) quests right away.

Forgetting Thorns

It only lasts 10 minutes.

Recast it whenever you heal up between fights.

Using Shred from the front

Shred only works from behind.

Open with Shred from Prowl, then use Claw.
